DAY SEVEN
A picture of someone/something that has the biggest impact on you.
This is a picture of the door at Number 7 Eccles Street, Leopold Bloom’s home in James Joyce’s Ulysses.
Frankly, I have too many someone’s who have impacted me and I could never choose. Even a somewhere was difficult to choose. But this particular somewhere is a great blend of things.
First of all, its located in Dublin—a city that means as much to me as my home town, as the city I live in today. A city that is a huge part of the woman I have become.
Second of all—Seven Eccles Street is central to Ulysses, and Ulysses is one of James Joyce’s most important works. James Joyce showed me that writing could be anything. Could be stream of consciousness, or screen-play, or question and answer, or completely lacking punctuation. He taught me about reading and writing and loving and who I am and who I want to be as a writer. He is my favorite author and he’s had untold impact on me as a writer and I am the biggest nerd ever, clearly. But this is meaningful to me, and visiting this door when I was in Dublin in May was really remarkably special to me.
